'Greens' by Julie Fejer

The Artist in Her Own Words: 

Juli Fejer’s painting is born out of her journey from isolated invalid to practising artist. The journey started when she was encouraged to paint by therapists at her local hospital and has taken her to the Royal Academy. Her subject is the half-wild spaces she encounters in her day-to-day life: from London parks to Suffolk meadows. She is a passionate advocate of mindfulness and the psychological benefits of walking in woodlands, and uses her art practice to communicate themes of hope and metamorphosis. While Fejer loves painting landscape for its own sake she also uses it as metaphor. Her current preoccupation is the effects of grief on her perceptions of colour and tone.

The self-taught artist invites you into landscapes that are familiar without being representational. Verticals and horizontals create a sense of restraint and emotional intensity, in contrast to organic mark making which she develops intuitively. She often uses unexpected and unsettling colour palettes. Fejer works in water-based paint and pen on paper and canvas. She walks, photographs, sketches en plein air, and then paints in the studio. Her iPad is integral to her practice as an artist.
